About LVCA
Literacy Volunteers of Charlottesville/Albemarle (LVCA) provides one-on-one, confidential tutoring in basic literacy and English as a second language to adults living or working in Charlottesville and Albemarle County. This service is provided by our talented volunteer tutors. We are celebrating our 28th anniversary of service to our community!
In the past seven years, Virginia’s foreign-born population has jumped by nearly half, bringing with it linguistic challenges. Listen to Deanne Foerster, Program Director of LVCA talk about our work with ESL students.

9,000 —The approximate number of adults in the Charlottesville/ Albemarle community who can’t read or write above a fifth grade level. At Literacy Volunteers, we think that number is too many.
That’s where you come in. Be a part of our community of supporters! We are able to serve more of the 9,000 adults who desperately need our assistance only through the contributions of our friends, family and neighbors—in other words, you.
